We are a coalition of neighbors, community partners, and staff representing and organizing in Austin’s Eastern Crescent to increase health equity.

While GAVA works in coalition across Austin’s Eastern Crescent, we are most deeply rooted in neighborhoods in southeast and north central Austin.

Core Values

These core values are the bedrock of our organization and provide the foundation for communities that are strong, stable, and healthy. Without them, our work to fulfill our mission and vision would not be possible.

Self-Determination

The priorities we champion are always informed by the voices, perspectives, and lived experiences of those living in the neighborhoods we serve.

Leadership Development

Leadership is discovered and nurtured. We create spaces in which community members and institutional leaders can develop solutions that utilize each other’s expertise.

Coalition Building

Relationships are the key to accomplishing our mission and vision. By forging relationships, we are building power – the power of sustainability, perseverance, and shared interests – that will endure.

Equitable Access

We believe that equitable access to healthy living, economic opportunities, and neighborhood stability are the inalienable rights of all community members, regardless of income, race, ethnicity, primary language, or immigration status.

Transformation

GAVA is proud of our many multi-sector collaborations that center the lived experience of community members to remove barriers and increase access to healthy living and neighborhood stability. We collaborate with the community, organizational partners, health care entities, and institutions like the University of Texas and the City of Austin, centering resident voices to advance health equity.

We believe it is crucial to learn from people’s history to understand why access has become so inequitable.
